Join Maine Audubon’s Andrew Tufts for a walk through the reforested section of Deering Oaks near King Middle School. Learn how native understory plantings; shrubs, groundcovers, and young trees, create soft landings for insects, support biodiversity, and bring resilience to our urban landscapes.

Trail building and maintenance at North Deering Park (Portland's newest park!). Involves transporting (in wheelbarrows), spreading, raking and tamping gravel and stonedust to create and improve pathways. There may be some light brushwork as well. 

BYO lunch/snacks, work/gardening gloves, water and bug repellent (just in case). Wear closed-to shoes and comfortable clothes.
