Portland breaks ground on new pool with triple capacity boost
PORTLAND, Maine — Portland and Portland Parks Conservancy held a groundbreaking for a new outdoor community pool to replace the 60-year-old Kiwanis Pool on Douglass Street. The facility will feature waterslides, a splash pad, lap swimming and water walking areas, accessible zero-grade entry, concessions, a lawn, and space for events like "Flick n' Float." The pool will accommodate up to 400 swimmers, four times the current capacity. Construction is expected to finish by summer 2026. The project is nearly fully funded, with about $50,000 still needed.
